DE&E Technology is home to various teams specializing in software and data engineering. As a subset of one such Software Engineering (SWE) Team, the Data Team is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality, reliability, and usefulness of Disney’s data solutions. The Data Team’s mission is to develop scalable and efficient data solutions that seamlessly integrate new data, optimize data organization, and adhere to industry-leading data management practices.
As a Senior Data Engineer with 5+ years of experience, you’ll provide informal leadership and strong expertise in data engineering, setting an example for best practices within the team. You will support junior engineers and leaders in the successful completion of all data projects. Your mission is to enhance the value of Disney’s data, involving data extraction, transformation, security, and more, with diverse programming languages and cloud services. Your role contributes to data solutions supporting analytics across departments. Join us in fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) within our collaborative and productive team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide informal technical leadership.
- Develop analytics dashboards and visualizations.
- Develop managed reports, analytics, and models.
- Design, write, test, and deploy code for data solutions.
- Navigate complex challenges and innovate within a dynamic business environment.
- Contribute to the entire data solution lifecycle, including ideation, development, testing, and sustainment.
- Conduct research and prototyping to test ideas that solve business needs.
- Assist in evaluating business requirements and estimating technical effort.
- Assist in data solution design to meet business and user needs.
- Mentor and coach junior team members.
- Review code for correctness and its impact on software and data architecture.
- Implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment practices.
- Perform assigned tasks like user onboarding and database administration.
- Sustain, enhance, and optimize data solutions.
- Participate in sustainment, on-call rotations, identifying and fixing defects, performing upgrades, and seeking iterative improvements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Data Engineering experience.
- Proficiency in dimensional modeling, star schema design, normalization, role-based security, and account provisioning.
- Experience with Snowflake data warehouse.
- Proven track record delivering complex data solutions on AWS.
- Extensive experience in database design, development, testing, upgrading, and migration (OLAP/OLTP).
- Proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Collaborative code repository experience in a CI/CD deployment environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Science, or a relevant field OR equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications in SQL, Python, Data Warehousing, DBA, AWS, or CICD.
- Database Administrator (DBA) experience.
- Experience with other cloud providers such as Azure or Google Cloud.
- Proficiency in JavaScript (for Snowflake stored procedures).
- Proficiency in MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and NoSQL technologies.
- Agile/Scrum team experience.
The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, California is $136,100 – $182,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
