User Experience Senior Principal – Pro – Remote

Position Purpose:

At The Home Depot, we get UX; it is baked into our DNA. Now we are expanding our team to drive new initiatives. As a leader of the UX team, you will work with other strategists, designers, and researchers to help craft end-to-end experiences and drive strategic direction.

You drive innovation by championing actionable user insights, deeply understanding our customers, enhancing product usability, and providing our team avenues to delight our customers. You communicate effectively and share a point of view that guides quality decisions.
The User Experience Senior Principal is responsible for strategic UX activities connecting customer/associate experiences. They will be focused on the largest problems across domains. They can take on various ways of leading as needed (e.g. strategist, service designer, information architect, creative director, or big project team lead).
The User Experience Senior Principal will operate autonomously in their role. They will proactively identify insights and opportunities and drive consistency and standards. The role typically supports 4-6 product teams within a customer/associate experience segment. Can have 2-5 principals or individual contributors as direct reports. Typically reports to Technology Director or Sr. Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 35% Delivery & Execution – Models & ensures consistency of deliverables across domains; Leads synthesis and facilitation activities; Delivers UX strategy artifacts. (e.g. experience maps, service blueprints, etc.)
  • 20% People – Develops and mentors principals (and future principals) on strategy, planning and innovative practices; Helps UX leadership align resources to products based on skillset and product team needs; Attracts, retains, develops, and motivates top talent
  • 45% Strategy & Planning – Partnering with Product, Development, other UX resources & business stakeholders across multiple domains; Drives UX practice across multiple domains; Drives vision & purpose: Combines user research with OGSMs or OKRs of partners to clearly articulate the vision of their experiences & drive alignment with partners in solutions across an end-to-end customer experience; Clearly communicates insights & opportunities & drives value across domains that gives insight into customer back approach

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • This position typically reports to Technology Director or Sr. Director
  • Can have 2-5 principals or individual contributors as direct reports.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience working with agile software development teams
  • Strong interpersonal savvy

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
